«Divided We Stand»
Main exhibition at the Stapferhaus Lenzburg. EXTENDED UNTIL 15 NOVEMBER.
International photographers with Aargau roots. A world-famous and successful Swiss photographer couple with roots in Aargau, these are Mathias Braschler and Monika Fischer. The two have been working together extremely successfully since 2003. They are the creators of internationally acclaimed photo series such as "About Americans". The pair of photographers portrays people from all over the world and from all walks of life, focusing in particular on the effects of climate change. Braschler/Fischer have been awarded numerous prizes, including a World Press Photo Award. Their photographs appear in countless international magazines, have been published as books and catalogues and are exhibited in galleries and museums throughout Europe, Asia and the United States.
Their exhibition «Divided We Stand» at the Stapferhaus is one of the highlights of this year's edition. The exhibition focuses on ordinary people whom the photographer couple met in 2019 on their four-month road trip in America. Pictures and voices tell us stories of the pressures of political, social and personal change. At a historical moment, when political decisions have shown what a deadly influence they can have on people's lives, the work of the Aargau photographers - shown publicly for the first time - shows how the lives of each of us are connected to those of others. The people portrayed, who are accompanied by their voices in audio format in the exhibition, move the viewer deep inside and thus allow him or her immediate access to them.
«Divided We Stand» has been realized in collaboration with Sibylle Lichtensteiger, Artistic Director and General Manager Stapferhaus, and the Stapferhaus team and it is curated by Denis Curti, Galerie STILL, Milan. The world-renowned curator is enthusiastic: "The photographs by Mathias Braschler and Monika Fischer are unique. There is nothing comparable. They are like those of another human size. Their work is a unique genre of photography. The fixed gaze of the protagonists of Divided we stand is intense, deeply moving."
The exhibition will be shown at the STILL Gallery in Milan from the end of October 2020.

The day ticket for visiting the indoor exhibitions of the festival is available at the entrance of the exhibition venues (Stapferhaus and Alte Bleiche): adults 13 CHF, students 10 CHF, children up to 16 years and Kultulegi free of charge.
Arrival
We recommend that you arrive by public transport. The Stapferhaus is located directly at Lenzburg railway station.
Parking spaces are available in various car parks around the station.

Team of photographers
Braschler/Fischer are a highly respected, internationally active team of photographers, consisting of Mathias Braschler and Monika Fischer. Their speciality are elaborate portrait projects with depth. For their projects and clients they have been travelling the world for many years and have not only worked in metropolises like New York, Beijing, Rio or Sydney but also in remote corners like the island state Kiribati, Everest Base Camp or Tuktoyaktuk in the far north of Canada. The spectrum of people who have stood in front of her camera ranges from stars like Roger Federer to nomadic farmers in the Sahel zone who have never been photographed before.
Braschler/Fischer have won several awards, including a World Press Photo Award, the Hansel Mieth Prize and the European Publishing Award. Their works are shown in exhibitions in museums and galleries worldwide, have been published in important international magazines and have been published as books.
